Can I book bi-weekly lessons?Generally, we recommend having weekly lessons for regular check-ins, accountability and quicker progress. However, bi-weekly lessons can be arranged depending on the tutor’s preference/schedule (as this can leave gaps).

What is Motive Music Plus?Motive Music Plus is your gateway to getting the most out of your learning. It gives you full access to a whole range of resources that your tutor has created, including a library of transcribed songs (sheet music/tabs), exercises and tutorial/YouTube videos. This allows you to learn more outside of your lessons, and you'll never be short of things to practise. It's only £5 a month, which directly supports your tutor as a musician and educator, as they have produced these resources in their own time. Currently, this is only available for drums - but we will make other instruments available soon!
-
Who will be my tutor?Your tutor will depend on who best aligns with your availability and personality. All our tutors are qualified and versatile. As we grow, we will expand our team and provide more availability. Your teacher will be the same every week. Occasionally, in cases of illness or planned teacher absence, lessons may be covered by one of the team. Don’t worry, we will communicate effectively so you can still get the most out of your lesson. See our About Us page to meet the team.
-
Can I have lessons at home?We don’t currently offer this, however, online lessons can be arranged if the tutor is prepared to do so. If you want access to exclusive content, lessons and sheet music, consider joining our Motive Music Plus community.

Do I need my own instrument before I start? For a buyer’s guide on individual instruments, click here. Piano: not necessarily. A piano is a big investment, so you could always start with a keyboard or digital piano in the short term, and upgrade when you’ve developed your craft. But some sort of keyboard would be necessary. Other Instruments: Yes, but that doesn’t mean you have to commit big bucks. You can get relatively cheap/second-hand (eBay, marketplace etc.), and there are budget models for beginners. Always ask your tutor or see our buyer’s guides.
-
How long should I practise for?You get out what you put in – so what are you prepared to do? :) At a minimum, beginners should look to practise 3 or more times a week for at least 10 minutes. Consistency is key. Muscle memory builds with frequency, so 1 hour spread across 3 days (3 20-minute sessions) would probably be more effective than a single hour on a Saturday. I’ve found that the “sweet spot” for optimal progress tends to range between 15 and 45 minutes per practice session for most people. You can always do longer, but you will likely get diminishing returns without taking a break due to loss of focus.
