  • Is it possible to schedule bi-weekly lessons?
We generally recommend weekly lessons for consistent progress and regular check-ins. However, if you prefer bi-weekly lessons, we can arrange that based on your tutor's availability. Just let us know your preference, and we'll do our best to accommodate you!
  • What benefits does Motive Music Plus offer?
Motive Music Plus is designed to enhance your learning experience. For just £5 a month, you'll get access to a treasure trove of resources created by your tutor, including transcribed songs, exercises, and tutorial videos. This means you can continue learning and practicing even outside of your lessons. Plus, your subscription supports your tutor's efforts. Currently, it's available for drums, but we're working on adding more instruments soon!
  • How is my tutor selected?
Your tutor will be chosen based on your availability and personality to ensure the best match. All our tutors are highly qualified and versatile. You'll have the same tutor each week, but in cases of illness or planned absences, another team member may step in. We'll always keep you informed to ensure you get the most out of your lessons. Check out our About Us page to meet our fantastic team!
  • Are home lessons available?
We currently don't offer home lessons, but we can arrange online lessons if your tutor is available for that. For exclusive content, lessons, and sheet music, consider joining our Motive Music Plus community!
  • Do I need to have my own instrument to begin lessons?
For piano, you don't necessarily need a full piano to start. A keyboard or digital piano can be a great starting point until you're ready to invest in a full piano. For other instruments, yes, you'll need your own, but you don't have to spend a lot. There are affordable options and second-hand instruments available. Always ask your tutor for recommendations or check out our buyer’s guides for more information.
  • How long should I practise for?
You get out what you put in – so what are you prepared to do? :) At a minimum, beginners should look to practise 3 or more times a week for at least 10 minutes. Consistency is key. Muscle memory builds with frequency, so 1 hour spread across 3 days (3 20-minute sessions) would probably be more effective than a single hour on a Saturday. I’ve found that the “sweet spot” for optimal progress tends to range between 15 and 45 minutes per practice session for most people. You can always do longer, but you will likely get diminishing returns without taking a break due to loss of focus.
